Hydro-Quebec

GMP has been purchasing electricity from Hydro-Quebec for years, but recently the Canadian utility has become more than simply a power-supply resource for the Company. During the last two years, as GMP and Hydro-Quebec restructured their extensive power-supply arrangements, the two companies expanded their long-standing working relationship.

While GMP is small in comparison with many major electric utilities, Hydro-Quebec is one of North America's largest utilities. Hydro-Quebec, which is wholly owned by the Province of Quebec:

• Had annual revenues in 1994 of $7.3 billion (Canadian).
• Has more than 20,000 permanent employees.
• Serves 3.3 million retail customers throughout Quebec.
• Has generating facilities--notably large hydroelectric generating stations in northern Quebec--with 30,000 megawatts of capacity.
• Had electricity sales in 1994 of 158.2 billion kilowatthours.
