Renewable Resources

Over the past decade, GMP increasingly has purchased and generated clean, renewable power. This acquisiton of power from renewable resources is not by chance, but rather is a key element in the Company's power-supply strategy. Indeed, the Company's reliance on renewable resources is one of the main reasons GMP has the lowest average rates in New England.

The economic benefits of renewable power are tied inextricably to its environmental benefits. As a company based in Vermont--a state noteworthy for its natural beauty, clean air and healthy ecosystems--GMP believes that it must be mindful of the natural environment and human health when deciding what power to deliver to its customers.

For example, since the mid-1980s, GMP has been purchasing power from its neighbor to the north, Hydro-Quebec. The merits of this power are severalfold, including competitive pricing not tied to fluctuations in the fossil-fuel markets and clean power from a renewable resource. These virtues are not incidental. They are powerful--for customers, for shareholders and for Vermont itself.
