Sources of Revenue
This chart shows the diversity of GMP's sources of revenue.
Retail electricity sales for 1995 increased by 1.9 percent over the previous year, as higher sales to business customers were partially offset by declining sales to residential customers:

    • Large business customers, notably the IBM facility in Essex Junction, led the growth, with a 6.7 percent increase in electricity purchases in 1995 compared to 1994.
    • Smaller business customers' use was almost flat--a 0.7 increase in 1995.
    • Residential use declined by 2.7 percent, largely because warm winter weather prevailed early in 1995.

Total electricity sales were more robust, increasing by 13.8 percent. This jump in sales reflects increased wholesale purchases and resales on the part of GMP, a high-volume, low-margin activity.
